As painful as it was it was necessary to draw some sort of line about old disputes (and even murder) so that everyone could move forward.
To then turn around and put your hair shirt on and pick out someone from one side to prosecute seems perverse.
If this goes ahead it’s not unreasonable to ask for a few more Irish murderers to be brought to book

I would urge anyone, especially those born after the time of the carnage, to read up about the troubles and Blooy Sunday in particular. Don’t try and glean information from the comments of the callow on here but find out valid information from authorities sources.
And it is worth taking on board that the initial reason for troops being sent to the province was to protect the nationalist communities from the Protestant Unionist entities.

On a serious note, Im Irish and I think this is outrageous at this stage tormenting this soldier. It seems a cynical act and although there was a lot of "I was only following orders" at Nurnberg. This is just plain wrong in this incidence. I think any crime should be judged on the time it happened in and not taken out of context 40 years later. Britain has gone way over the top in recent years as wanting to be seen as the fairest legal system ( and Im not saying it's not) , trying to show no one escapes the law to appease to minorities and whoever is out there moaning, even the Irish who didnt come out of "the Troubles" , sorry Norm, with their hands clean. ! FFS whats next , paying compensation to those in Dresden who had their houses bombed in the 40's? And with regard to the protesters, there was a lot of provocation that day on their part, the squeaky clean image of priests waving white hankies is a bit too sterile for me, many wanted it to kick off and got their wish, If you cant stand the heat stay out of the kitchen
